Fick principle
Based on Law of Conservation of Matter
- Uptake (or output) of a substance by a tissue must be equal to the difference between the amount entering and the amount leaving the tissue.
Thus,
Blood flow
= Uptake / a-V concentration difference
NB:
- Fick's law = Describes the diffusion of gas
- Fick's equation = Calculates blood flow, based on Fick's principle
